ACADEMIC PROFILE: John-Okoria Ibhakewanlan has a Master’s degree and a Licentiate degree in Theology from the University of Toronto in Canada. He also obtained a Master’s degree in psychology from the University of London and his degree in philosophy from Milltown Institute (now at Trinity College) in Dublin, Ireland. In 2015 he completed his PhD in education at Nottingham University in England.

WORK PROFILE: During his doctoral studies at Nottingham, John-Okoria served as assistant editor in the Visiting Scholars series of Jubilee Press. Prior to his doctoral studies, he was for five years (2006–2011) the President and Principal of Loyola Jesuit College, Abuja. After serving as the Presidential Scholar in residence at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, he joined Hekima University College in Nairobi, Kenya, as Principal in March of 2017. Having completed his 6-year tenure in January of 2023 as Principal of Hekima University College, he was appointed as the Coordinator of the Proposed Loyola Jesuit University in Nigeria and also as the Chairman of the Tertiary Education Commission for the North-West Africa Province (ANW) of the Jesuits. That is his current responsibility. As Provincial Delegate for ANW, he is responsible for Jesuit Tertiary Education in the five English-speaking countries of West Africa: Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra-Leone.

PERSONAL PROFILE: John-Okoria is a member of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). He has been a Jesuit for more than 30 years. In July of 2023, he celebrated 20 years as a Priest.
